Lilac
'Miss Kim'
Syringa patula 'Miss Kim'
Ornamental shrub, 5'-8' tall
Fragrant violet/purple blooms
Full sun
The Miss Kim Lilac blooms a week or two later
than the common Lilac (Syringa vulgaris). Its abundant and reliable flowers
are violet-purple and sweetly scented. Flowering is best in full sun,
but it will also flower in part shade.
Miss Kim forms a compact, upright-rounded shrub,
slowly reaching about 5’-8’ tall and wide. Its deciduous, dark
green foliage is resistant to powdery mildew, and takes on an attractive burgundy
hue in fall. The bark is ornamental in winter with its many lenticels (horizontal
markings). A good choice for trained topiary. Hardy to USDA Zone 3. |
